External Curriculum Review Workshop Strengthens Sustainability Course Development Across ECoGREEN Partner Universities

As part of the Erasmus+ ECoGREEN Project’s Work Package 3 on Curriculum Development, partner universities convened in Semarang for The External Review on Curricula of ECoGREEN–Indonesia University Partners: Follow Up for Future Planning, hosted by Soegijapranata Catholic University (SCU) on 19 February 2025. The workshop brought together Work Package members and lecturers from six Indonesian partner universities to critically review newly developed sustainability-oriented courses and refine their implementation strategies.

The review workshop was designed to provide comprehensive external feedback, strengthen sustainability planning, facilitate collaboration among partner institutions, and refine eco-entrepreneurship modules to better align with Indonesia’s educational and socio-cultural context. Two external reviewers—Markus Budiraharjo, Ed.M., Ed.D. and Ir. Rossana Dewi—provided multidisciplinary perspectives on curriculum quality, pedagogical delivery, and practical sustainability integration.

A key outcome of the workshop was the identification of institutional strengths and opportunities for improvement across the consortium. For Universitas Surabaya (UBAYA), reviewers highlighted its strong emphasis on applying sustainability principles within design, fashion, ergonomics, and circular supply chain systems, positioning UBAYA as one of the consortium’s leading examples of design-driven sustainability education. Recommendations for further development included strengthening ethical and social justice perspectives, expanding practical real-world engagement, improving self-assessment mechanisms, and broadening course learning materials to support more diverse sustainability perspectives.

The workshop marked an important milestone in ensuring that newly developed sustainability curricula are academically rigorous, contextually relevant, and capable of equipping future graduates with the competencies needed to lead sustainable innovation across industries and communities.
