External Review Workshop Strengthens Sustainable Entrepreneurship Training Modules for MSMEs

As part of its ongoing commitment to integrating sustainability and eco-entrepreneurship into higher education and community development, the Erasmus+ ECoGREEN Consortium successfully organized The External Review on Sustainable and Eco-entrepreneurship Training Module for MSMEs (ECoGREEN–Indonesia University Partners) on 20 August 2025 at the Library Building, Universitas Surabaya, Surabaya. Organized by Soegijapranata Catholic University in collaboration with Universitas Surabaya, the workshop marked an important milestone in refining sustainability learning modules designed to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in adopting more sustainable business practices.

The workshop brought together 30 participants, including module writers, curriculum developers, and Work Package 3 representatives from Indonesian partner institutions. The event focused on critically reviewing newly developed sustainability and green entrepreneurship modules, ensuring that the content remains academically rigorous while being practical, contextual, and relevant to the realities faced by Indonesian MSMEs.

A total of 11 bilingual training modules were submitted for review, representing diverse sustainability themes developed by consortium universities. Among them, Universitas Surabaya contributed two flagship modules—Sustainable Design and Sustainable Fashion—highlighting UBAYA’s strong contribution in design-driven sustainability education and applied eco-entrepreneurship learning.

The workshop featured two distinguished external reviewers—Dr. Dyna Rachmawati, SE, M.Si., Ak., CA and Dr. Esti Dwi Rinawiyanti, ST., MBA, PhD—who provided both technical and strategic perspectives on module quality. Their recommendations emphasized the importance of clear terminology and definitions, consistent use of concepts, integration of diagrams and flowcharts, inclusion of up-to-date data, incorporation of Indonesian MSME case examples, and practical tools such as checklists, monitoring templates, and evaluation exercises. These recommendations strengthened the modules’ potential to become practical educational resources for sustainability capacity building beyond the academic environment.

A key strength of the event was its collaborative format. Following the review sessions, each university partner revised its module directly on-site, incorporating expert feedback before presenting the revised version back to the consortium. This review–revision–presentation cycle created a dynamic learning environment that fostered critical reflection, collaborative improvement, and accountability in module development. The event documentation on pages 17–19 also shows strong inter-university participation and active workshop discussion, reinforcing the collaborative spirit of the consortium.

Participant feedback confirmed the workshop’s success, with reviewers praised for clarity, engagement, and responsiveness, while logistical arrangements—including venue quality, audio-visual support, and hospitality—received highly positive evaluations. The overwhelmingly positive feedback reflected not only strong organization, but also the growing maturity of ECoGREEN’s sustainability education ecosystem.

By refining practical sustainability modules for MSMEs through rigorous external review and collaborative revision, this workshop marked another important step in ECoGREEN’s mission to bridge higher education, entrepreneurship, and community impact—strengthening the foundation for sustainable business transformation in Indonesia.
